Amy graduated from Western Kentucky University in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science in Social Work. She went on to the University of Louisville to complete her graduate studies, earning a Master of Science in Social Work in 2004. She passed her Certification of Social Work (CSW) before completing her LCSW in 2008.

Since then, Amy has gained a significant amount of experience in the field of geriatrics. She worked at Our Lady of Peace for 9 and a half years. For 7 of those years, Amy worked as an Inpatient Social Worker/Psychotherapist in the Peace Geriatric Treatment Services unit. During that time, she provided group, individual, and family therapy, assisted patients and families with case management and discharge planning, and coordinated aftercare with a variety of community resources. 

Amy also worked for 2 years at Amedisys, Inc./Home Health Services as a Medical Social Worker and Chronic Care Coordinator. Through that time, she counseled patients and families with health-related financial, social, and emotional concerns, as well as assisted patients to achieve and maintain a level of health and independence, which helped to prevent avoidable hospitalizations.

Amy is an adjunct professor at the University of Louisville/Kent School of Social Work. She instructs a graduate-level course, “Social Work Practice with Older Adults,” teaching assessments commonly used with older adults in the areas of physical and mental health, social support and participation, and assessments of home environments. 

She also teaches the students how to formulate service plans, outcome measures, and objectives based on comprehensive geriatric assessments. In the course, Amy shares specific practices and approaches such as motivational interviewing, evidence-based practice, strengths-based approaches, narrative therapy, and cognitive therapy.

Amy is a member of the Barton House family and continues to carry on the heritage of high-quality care that Barton House is known for.

Martha is a Licensed Nurse with over 13 years of nursing experience. She received her nursing license in 2004 from the Galen School of Nursing in Louisville, KY. Her nursing background comes from years of geriatric and healthcare management service.
Martha joined the Barton House team in December 2015 as a nurse. She moved into the Director of Nursing position in August 2017. She takes pride in the quality of care that Barton House is known for. Martha is well known in her career as a team builder and brings the positive out in any situation.

While Martha’s main passion is nursing, she enjoys traveling and spending time with her grandson and family on her days off. Martha feels some people choose their careers for money or prestige, but she would like to believe she was one of those lucky people born into their calling to be a nurse.

Tracy went to Georgetown College on a volleyball scholarship and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in marketing & finance with a minor in psychology. 

She worked in management and marketing for 10 years before staying at home to care for her children. She was very involved in the parent’s association for their school, serving as President for many years. She also served on the board of The Francis Parker School of Louisville for several years. 

In 2019 as empty nesting approached, she prayed to figure out her next journey. At this time, she was also helping to care for her father-in-law, who eventually moved into the Barton House. She started out volunteering at the Barton House, which then progressed to taking a position of Activity Assistant and, finally, the Activity Director.

Her prayers were answered, and this was the perfect fit. She brings many games, intellectual stimulation, activities (modified for the residents), and fun, which she learned from years of working with her children and countless hours at their school. 

During covid-19, she set up group texts for each family to share daily activities, including pictures and videos sent weekly to the families. She also encouraged families to send videos back where they are shown on the big TV in the family room every Monday night for Family Movie night. As restrictions were lifted, she realized many family members lived out of town. So, she continued this weekly communication so the families could keep up to date with their family members. 

In her spare time, Tracy likes to play tennis, hike, and spend time with her family.

I was born and raised in Louisville, Ky.  I began working at Barton House in June 2016.  What started out as a part time position quickly turned into full-time. Working at Barton House made me realize that I have a love and passion for working with geriatrics in a memory care setting.  My goal is to provide support and encouragement for the staff as well as nurturing care and comfort to our residents.  I feel very blessed that our residents’ families have allowed us to care for their loved ones.  It’s a great privilege and honor to be part of each unique individual’s life journey.  Barton House is not our workplace but rather our home away from home.

Eric’s 40 years of experience in the field of maintenance has been through positions held in the military, industrial and residential trades. In the most recent 5 years he has enjoyed working in an elderly care facility which he finds to be much more rewarding. Eric sees his role at Barton House as being part of the team that provides a safe, comfortable and happy home to the residents by maintaining the building’s integrity, repairing and improving the workings of the building to assist and support the staff. At home, Eric loves spending time with family. Also enjoying time tinkering and restoring old radios and record players while listening to his vast collection of records.

George was born and raised in Louisville, KY. He found his passion for cooking as a young man and studied under Chef Jimmy Gherardi from “Everybody’s Cooking” in Cincinnati. George helped open several restaurants in Louisville, spearheading the training and development of employees. 

In 1996, George joined Jewish Hospital as Executive Sous Chef and worked there for 18 years. He specialized in kosher and heart healthy cuisine, serving as the personal chef for one of the first AbioCor self-contained artificial heart recipients. He then led successful teams at Aramark, Morrison/Compass, and Sodexo. 

George has appeared on several TV shows to showcase heart healthy and diabetes-friendly meals and also helped launch the Soul Food cookbook for heart disease. 

George joined the Barton House family in 2019 as Dietary Manager. He has a special connection to Barton House, as his mother and aunts had Alzheimer’s. He sees working at Barton House as his way of giving the residents the care he wanted his mom to have.
